Did Dan Amos and the Aflac board make the right call in giving shareholders an advisory vote on executive pay?   Yes, executive pay is extraordinarily high, and the only way to get it under control is to let shareholders weigh in.   No, a shareholder's job is to vote for or against board members. If they set the pay too high, the vote should be against the director, not the pay package.
